Recently, GAC Toyota unveiled the 2024 Toyota Wildlander Compact SUV Hybrid Electric Car, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of hybrid vehicles.
The Wildlander

The Wildlander showcases a unique exterior design, distinguishing itself from the FAW Toyota Rongfang. The most striking difference lies in the front fascia, which features a larger trapezoidal air intake grille reminiscent of Lexus's spindle design. Narrow, 'squinting' headlights add a touch of cold elegance, while larger fog lights mimic air intake designs, enhancing the vehicle's bold aesthetic.
While the front design is unconventional, the side and rear profiles bear a closer resemblance to the RAV4. Notable differences include ring-shaped taillight interiors and the addition of fog lights at the lower end of the rear bumper. Both fuel and hybrid models sport a dual-exhaust layout, emphasizing the vehicle's robust engineering.
The Wildlander boasts dimensions of 4665 mm in length, 1855 mm in width, and 1680 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2690 mm. These measurements place it firmly within the mainstream market segment, offering ample space and comfort.
Inside, the Wildlander's design mirrors that of the Rongfeng, with a multi-linear center console and a simplistic yet functional layout. The 10.1-inch floating center control screen adds a modern touch, and customers can choose between dark and light interior color schemes.
The entry-level 2024 Toyota Wildlander (2.0-liter CVT two-drive) comes with enhanced features like front and rear parking radar and the TSS Toyota Intelligence Safety System, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist/departure warning, and active braking.
The premium Wildlander model takes luxury a notch higher with 360-degree panoramic views, electric rear doors, heated/ventilated front seats, 4G network connectivity, mobile app remote control, and a HUD head-up display system.
Safety is a paramount concern, with the entire Wildlander lineup featuring 7 SRS airbags and the latest generation Toyota TSS (Toyota Safety System) technology (version 2.0). The model has performed exceptionally well in crash tests by the China Insurance Automobile Safety Index, akin to other high-scoring GAC Toyota models like the Leiling (Levin) and Camry.
The Wildlander offers three powertrain options: a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with 126 kW power and 209 Nm torque, a 2.5-liter gas-electric hybrid system with 163 kW power and EV mode, and a high-performance 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid system with 132 kW engine power, 224 Nm torque, 134 kW electric motor power, and 270 Nm torque, all paired with an E-CVT stepless transmission.
