Recently, GAC Toyota unveiled the highly-anticipated 2024 Toyota
Wildlander,
officially launching an impressive lineup of 11 distinct models.
In terms of design, the Wildlander embraces a unique aesthetic to stand apart from its sibling, the FAW Toyota Rongfang. The most noticeable difference lies in its front fascia: although both share a trapezoidal air intake grille, the Wildlander's is larger, evoking the elegant spindle air intake of a Lexus. The Wildlander's narrowed, 'squinting' headlights add a touch of cool sophistication. Complementing this, the vehicle's fog lights feature a larger, imitation air intake design for a bold statement.
While the front design of the Wildlander is quite unconventional, its side and rear profiles bear more resemblance to the RAV4. One standout feature is the taillight's ring-shaped internal design, and the addition of a fog light at the lower end of the rear bumper. The dual-exhaust layout is standard on both fuel and hybrid models, enhancing its robust appearance.
Measuring 4665 mm in length, 1855 mm in width, and 1680 mm in height with a 2690 mm wheelbase, the Wildlander boasts dimensions that meet the mainstream standards of its segment. These specifications are nearly identical to the FAW Toyota Rongfang, albeit with slight variations due to differing design elements.
Inside, the Wildlander's interior closely mirrors that of the Rongfang. The center control design is multi-linear for a straightforward, functional look, highlighted by a 10.1-inch floating center control screen. It offers a choice between dark and light-colored interiors.
The entry model of the 2024 Toyota Wildlander (2.0-liter CVT two-wheel drive) maintains the same pricing but comes equipped with new front and rear parking radar, and the TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) Intelligent Safety System, which includes full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist/departure warning, active braking, and more.
The premium model elevates the driving experience, featuring 360-degree panoramic imaging, electric rear doors, front seat heating/ventilation, 4G network connectivity, a mobile app for remote control, and an advanced HUD (head-up display) system.
A highlight of the Wildlander's configuration is its comprehensive safety suite. The entire lineup comes standard with 7 SRS airbags, ensuring no compromise on safety even in lower-end models. Additionally, it incorporates the latest generation of the Toyota TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) 2.0 technology. Toyota's TNGA platform vehicles, including the GAC Toyota Levin and Camry, have consistently scored high in China's Insurance Automobile Safety Index crash tests.
The Wildlander offers three powertrain options: a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine, a 2.5-liter gas-electric hybrid, and a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid. The 2.0-liter engine delivers a maximum power of 126 kW and a maximum torque of 209 Nm, paired with a CVT stepless transmission. The 2.5-liter dual-engine hybrid system offers a maximum power of 163 kW, an EV pure electric mode, and an E-Four all-wheel-drive system. The high-performance version features a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid system, producing up to 132 kW with a maximum engine torque of 224 Nm, with an electric motor output of 134 kW and maximum torque of 270 Nm, mated to an E-CVT stepless transmission.
