BYD's new mid-size sedan, the Qin L DM-i, has been officially unveiled, featuring an impressive lineup of 5 distinct models. Positioned above the Qin PLUS DM-i, this sophisticated vehicle integrates BYD's fifth-generation DM (plug-in hybrid) technology, offering enhanced performance and efficiency. Simultaneously, BYD has also introduced the Seal 06 DM-i from the Ocean Network series, expanding its innovative offerings.
The Qin L DM-i boasts an exterior design that continues the exquisite 'Longyan Design Aesthetics' from the Dynasty Net series. With a sleek and flattened profile, it features a brand-new headlight design and striking black connecting decorative panels. The car's front grille is notably large, adorned with a dot matrix chrome trim and flanked by ventilation slots, amplifying its sporty appeal over the Qin PLUS. Available in four stunning colors-Ice Green, Jianyao Purple, Runyu White, and Tea Crystal Grey-the Qin L DM-i offers a visual treat for every taste.
From a side view, the Qin L DM-i showcases a dynamic two-stage waistline and a distinctive sloping design towards the rear. The rear is adorned with a brand-new through-type light strip, featuring a 'Chinese knot'-inspired structure within the tail lights and an illuminated 'BYD' English logo. Dimensionally, the Qin L DM-i measures 4830 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and 1495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2790 mm. Compared to the Qin PLUS DM-i, it offers an additional 65 mm in length, 63 mm in width, and 72 mm in wheelbase, while maintaining the same height.
Inside, the Qin L DM-i exudes sophistication with two elegant color options: Haoyue Mi and Xuanwu Grey. The center console is designed with a modern, minimalist aesthetic, featuring an 8.8-inch full LCD instrument panel with an embedded design. The floating center console screen comes in three sizes-10.1-inch, 12.8-inch, and 15.6-inch-depending on the model, all integrated with the advanced DiLink intelligent networking system.
Under the hood, the Qin L DM-i is powered by BYD's pioneering fifth-generation DM technology, combining a 1.5-liter engine with a robust drive motor. The engine delivers a maximum power of 74 kW, while the drive motor offers two peak power options of 120 kW and 160 kW, reaching top speeds of 180 km/h. The vehicle features two lithium iron phosphate blade battery options with capacities of 10.08 kWh and 15.874 kWh, providing pure electric ranges of 80 km and 120 km under CLTC conditions. Its fuel efficiency is impressive, with NEDC conditions showing 2.9 liters and 3.08 liters per 100 kilometers. The car also comes standard with a front MacPherson strut and a newly designed rear E-type four-link independent suspension.
Strategically positioned between the Qin PLUS DM-i and the Han DM-i on the Dynasty Net, the Qin L DM-i bridges a key pricing gap. Given the scarcity of mid-size plug-in hybrid vehicles in today's market, it competes directly with joint venture brand gasoline mid-size sedans like the Magotan, Passat, Camry, Accord, and Teana. With a more competitive price point post-discounts and superior fuel economy, the Qin L DM-i stands out as an attractive option in its segment.
