HEV mode, activated when battery levels are low, combines engine and motor outputs to drive and recharge the battery, though this may increase engine noise and fuel consumption.

 

Chassis and Suspension: The RAV4 Hybrid employs a robust suspension system with front McPherson struts and rear multi-link setups. The added battery pack increases the vehicle's weight to nearly 2 tons, enhancing overall chassis thickness and providing better isolation from road imperfections. While its power and response are impressive, high-speed cornering revealed significant body roll and a somewhat disengaged steering feel, making it less suited for aggressive driving. The top-tier model includes an E-Four electronic all-wheel-drive system, dynamically adjusting the front and rear wheel torque distribution from 100:0 to 20:80.
